i was sat here minding my own business, when my mobile phone started to ring with a +44 telephone number that was absent from my address book.
i answered the call and the recipient immediately hung up.
with an air of curiosity and consideration, i attempted to ring back with a single dial tone- only to be cut off immediately due to 'insufficient funds'.
i do have a pay-as-you-go mobile phone, therefore i checked my balance just to make sure.
it has become apparent that i have been charged £1.70 for a 'four second phonecall'..

Bit of...

EDIT: got txts as well from (I think) the same no.

why would you call someone back anyway? if i get a missed call i wait for them to call me back. if it was that important they would.

On the off chance they can't - buttons broken on the phone, anything. But mostly curiosity.

Fucking ringing something back if you don't know who it is. They'll call you back if it's important.

Mind you, I'm not completely innocent.
I test out my new phone/3G services. Downloaded the YouTube application, watched one of my videos on there and did some other browsing like checking out Corsasport.
£14 later

Exact same thing here, watched a few youtube vids thinking I get them for free. Next thing I know I get a 'service message' saying that I've used £42.50 worth

i had one of these calls yesterday. I was about to phone it back like i usually do with missed calls, but thought it looked dodgy.
Since i didnt answer it, am i safe from getting a big bill? Im on a contract.
