Long story short, tax disc holder fell off about a month ago, disc has been in the glove box ever since, till last night Asda car park had Police all over it so I got it out and put it on the dash board, seen a mate on the way out so stood talking to him for about 10 mins with the door open, tax disc is no longer in the car and Im summising it has blown away as it was really windy,

Im assuming as its a DVLA matter its not as simple as ringing them and asking for a new one?

They send you out a copy of it IIRC

go to your local dvla office they will do it there and then, my dad lost his, found it next day de-faced took it to dvla and they changed it for him.

i lost mine and they sent me out a free duplicate and received it in a few days. wouldnt worry about not diplaying one for the time being, the car is taxed still.
