The US E36 M3 engine was - from an engineers view - a modified standard 3-series 6-cylinder motor: The S50us engine was a bored/stroked I-6 mainly based on the M50/M52 engine which was used in the 325i/328i.

may be so, but the s50b30us has a displacement of 3.0l not 2.8 which is what i was saying

TR6s are lovely James but are only any good if you are the chap who's sat on the chassis on the previous page or similar, as once you are a year or two older taller and fatter, you no longer fit inside the car and can only look at it longingly and sadly.
