I've not looked into it properly yet.
But i'm setting an online shop up in a few weeks.
Is it cheaper for a business to go through paypal / nochex, than get charged by a bank for X amount a month for transactions coming in straight from an online form?
I heard it's quite a lot cheaper? May be wrong though, what is taken off from a transaction for roughly £1000? Opposed to a bank?
Any help would be great, thanks

We'll I run a business using pappal and a 560.00 transaction took 19.24 away in fees.
There is also a 100.00 transaction that took 3.60 so I think the fee is 3.6%. Its quite alot but the other options could cost alot more depending on your selling capabilities.

For other options you'd need a gateway panel such as http://www.whmcs.com with a gateway payment module (Which also includes paypal) for credit/debit card processing
That alone costs $15.95 Monthly (Roughly £7/8). Then the cost of something like http://www.authorize.net/

Aye mate, I know that.
Think im just going to use paypal / cheques.
Transactions will be minimum of £600 and max of £3600. So it's quite hard to find a solution where it doesn't rape you for costs. I think paypal's the cheapest.
Going to have a few payment methods but obviously paypal is the "well known" one that people will go for so will make that default.

dont you think that paypal will limit your buyers, i know i dont use paypal for much other than ebay, would rather use a card direct on a website.

I use nochex as you can integrate their payment page into your site all personalised so it looks more professional. Thats the merchant account btw, it mite be worth asking your bank about merchant facilities although when i looked at it for my other business it proved to be quite costly.
Other thing with nochex is you get an account manager same as you do with a business bank account which is quite useful.

Likes of eBuyer / cleanyourcar / if they offer PayPal i use it over a credit card!
Usually as I have money in paypal account to spend rather than putitng it on a CC

I'm not using just paypal mate, will be worldpay / nochex / google checkout. Paypal will be the most used by customers though, hence the question about fees

I know what you mean with the merchent account being costly i've heard figures which I was shocked at. Is it quite easy to set up merchent accounts with nochex?

add 3.4% to the final price to take into account paypal fee's?
if they gift you the money they will still pay same as covering fee's just they pay it not you.
Then they don't have buyer protection as its a "gift"

I'm not sure how much having an 'Internet merchant' account with your bank would cost Whittie, but from going by comments from my customers when I do their ecommerce sites they tell me it's cheaper to use PayPal?
