The power steering in my XE was buggered for about 6 months due to a helluva lot of hassle with the pump - needed spaced over then the return pipe blew due to touching the manifold

Never felt what it's like to have a corsa XE with no PAS, with a non-PAS rack. But mine was a million times better when I connected it up.

No PAS with a PAS rack = a pain in the fucking arse.

EDIT: And if you 'disconnect' your power steering without removing the pump it's going to break. Happened when my pipe burst - driving with the pump running with no fluid going through it is a big no no, my pulley fell off it.

... the alternator/fan belt? Hope he had a battery charger or some jump leads...

Wide belt alternator belt that goes around just 2 pulleys? I take it that's from the early X14XE Sport's that didn't have PAS?

My X14XE belt was too long, had to measure how long I needed and just went to halfords and found one the same length.

Yeah, I just cut the 1.4 belt down to size and measured it.

Twin pulley uses seperate belts for PAS and alty

I meant you can remove the PAS belt on an XE and not lose your alty belt as someone said above
