Straighline speed is pretty useless unless the car is solely for the quater mile, roads tend to have corners in.

Why cant ppl on this site get realistic??

Just because it carries the Porsche badge does that mean its faster than cars that are a 6th of the price??NO.

My point is,a corsa in XE guise can give a 2.5 boxter a hard time,i never once mentioned it will beat 1 FFS.A hard time in my book would be sticking with it from behind,or leading the way with the Boxter not having the power to make a clean pass.

Im not saying XE Corsas are the fastest things on the road, but they certainly aint slow. They are quick and with the right driver behind the wheel, can shock a few of the more expensive cars that carry a designer badge.

We all know that though. Most people who've replied have HAD 2.0 corsas, 2.0 turbos, 2.0 on throttle bodies etc...

We were all as passionate (if not more) than you. Then we got a little older, a little wiser, less sentimental, and woke up more to what a "good" car is, and what a cheap modified car is.

A £5k scoobie with £5k chucked at the engine will oblitorate a 2.5 Porsche boxster.

Does that mean that its a better car? Will it last as long? How many times will you have niggles with the corsa etc etc..

Theres a bigger picture than, "yeah i can keep with a boxster in a straight line"

Quality comes to mind too.

i owned a corsa that in a straight line gave a 993 carrera a run for its money, that doesnt make the porsche crap, nor does it make my corsa better.

Even if you beat a porsche, your corsa doesnt have to style, sound, drivetrain, heritage, build materiels etc.

My corsa is faster than my M3 midrange but the M3 is a better car by a country fucking mile.

Yeah but no matter what you say..........a Corsa isnt a Porsche. Some people might not want a Corsa?

It just seems every car anyone mentions on here you say its shit!!!

Cars I think are pants.

Corsas on TB
Scooby P1's
TVR Tuscan
Audi RS6's

But Robin Reliants with XE's are awesome (OK minus the XE).

You know im right. You should have stuck with you 220bhp XE corsa from 2001 before people knew what an engine converted corsa was.

Silly boy.

Ok,i never once said an XE corsa was a better car than any Porsche.Of course a Porsche is gonna be a better all rounder. But then again, theyr are other cars than are a better all rounder than a Porsche. At the end of the day it all depends on personall preference and what u want from a car.

P.S i had a Pulsar that would annihalate a Boxter,Boster S and possible even some 911s,dosnt mean im saying its a better car.

Straight line, there was nothing in it.........everything else and the Porsche anihilated me!! You cant even compare the two cars!!!

I dont think I would have one but I do like them!!! Of course if you had the money you would go for the 911 but thats a totally stupid statement.

If you like them, go for it!!!

honest opinion from someone that clearly knows what he;s talking about

when i worked for porsche i couldnt see the fuss, till i went out in one

Same for me that y'know!! Especially cos we were on a track aswell.........thats where you really feel the difference, when you can push a car to its limits!! Its impossible to do this on the road, thats why high powered Corsas and the like can keep up with cars like these.

FFS sake what have i started here!!!!

I knew Imprezza's would come into this somwere

Basically i want to avoid the 996 911 because of engine issues with that model and for 15-17K i'd only get a Y/51 plate with 70K miles and i want a newer car.

Outright speed is not the point of the choice! My car would easily keep up with a Boxster S as i said it does with my BIL's Cayman S with the newer engine.

I just want a newer car with pedigree that makes me smile when i drive it....has character...and can move when i need it too.Oh and Exige/VX220 are out the window the wife hates them

Oh and Col i remember the talk mate

I think Lee's porkie has been thrashed by just about everyone. That poor car.

Remember when he bought that. £30k, on a non S model. Still fairly new cars.

Then he bunged some pimpin 19"s, then kerbed them literally a few days after he'd got them. We'd just dropped some ladies off at home, I went flying through a reduced size barrier (WHEEEYYY MY CORSA DONE SOMETHING BETTER THAN A BOXSTER  ), and Lee, well, he didn't.. Rear wheels got caught between the kerbs.

Sorry, random memories.

PS, Stu, no worries, I think I was FAR FAR sadder than you, just you spent the money, that took me a few years to catch up

CorsaNut.

Yup, imagine two square kerbs in the road with poles sticking up, with enough room for a car, but not a van to get through the kerbs,

Well i went straight through, Lee had some super wide 19" rear wheels, the front went between the kerbs fine, but the rears just jammed in. Had to reverse them out, hence more scratches.

I fealt really sorry for him, brand new wheels, and in 2001/2, 19" wheels were REALLY not cheap at all!!!!!!!! I could see the emotion drain from his face. Was not a happy bunny.

Women were hot though
