Had this conversation with an uncle when we were comparing our driving licences the other day.

I passed in 2001, and have classes B and B1 on the back.

I use a trailor now and again with my car, he reckons I need to do a test to get the class on the back of my licence?

Oh and I drive Luton Vans now and again.

Is what I'm doing legal?!

f you passed a car test on or after 1 January 1997 you're limited to vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes maximum authorised mass towing a trailer up to 750kgs, or a vehicle and trailer combination up to 3.5 tonnes MAM providing the MAM of the trailer doesn't exceed the unladen mass of the towing vehicle. You will need to pass an additional driving test in B+E if you wish to tow a caravan or trailer combination which exceeds these weight limits.

not sure about what you can drive but you only have to do a trailer test if the load you are towing is heavier than the weight of your vehicle
