I have quite a few valuable things that I take to Uni with me i.e. laptop, music player etc and couldn't afford to replace them if they went wrong.
Now, I value my laptop at £350 which is what it cost me, however, it's pretty outdated, I don't have the original receipt, so what would be the payout? The amount I paid for it, or the value now? Same applies for my Zen Vision:M, I paid £250 when they were first released, but is worth under £100 now.
Anyone students that have previously claimed etc, it would be a huge help

So you're planning on committing insurance fraud?
The excess on items like this is pretty high though, you'll only get a few quid for those things.

Got full money when my camera was damaged. £10 excess too. Think they are part of Endsleigh

No I'm not I go to Uni in Luton. I will be in Uni more so now as it's my 3rd year and will be walking around more.
Been looking on Endsleigh and the excess is about £50 for each item, which is less than a new laptop. Plus it's £49 as a yearly premium - I just want to know whether I'll payout £50 excess, they value my laptop so I'm only £50 up?

Would that be 'new for old'?

same thing, different wording. i'm sure i heard of Laptop insurance being like this. the relative cost of replacing a machine 12months or older is so small that its pointless having the insurance (like you say £50 policy) and no customer would want a policy that paid back the premium so is new for old

I use these too, they seem ok, and after reading the policy it sounds like they pay what it cost. or provide you with an item to the same value if its no longer on sale.
