bearings are in the drum, castle nut comes after bearings therefore cstle nut is holding drum assembly to stub axle. on a corsa anyway.

the likes of mk4 astras the wheel nuts pass through the drum into the hub. alls the grup screw does it hold the drum to the hub.

you can use the drum without a grub screw because the 4 wheel nuts pass through it then into the hub.

its not the wheel bolts, bolting into the drum thats bolted to the hub with a grub screw.

I think that's what I was meaning.

And agreed with the drum screw bit, I've got none on the front - same idea.

The drum is the hub. It sits on the stub axle, there is a large washer and castle nut holding it in place. There are 4 Torx bolts holding the stub axles onto the rear beam.

The drum is the hub. It sits on the stub axle, there is a large washer and castle nut holding it in place. There are 4 Torx bolts holding the stub axles onto the rear beam.


I know the set-up, I've changed a corsa axle/rear beam over.

Maye it's just the names I'm giving things. I'd call the hub the bit with the actual brake assembly in it, that bolts with the 4 torx bolts to the axle - the bit that the wheel bolts bolt through to.

And the drum the hollow bit that you remove to change shoes/master cylinder and the like.

I had thought the drum was held on with a small screw, just checked and it's not. My bad, only thought that because I thought it was the same set up as a mk3 astra.
