If you pay for your car tax online it takes 4-5 days to receive your tax disc.
What I wanted to know was is it legal to drive the car during this period while you are waiting for the tax disc to arrive?
Thanks.

Cheers for the responses guys. Just don't want to be driving the car if it's not legal without the disc.
As you've said your disc has to be displayed, but surely if you're waiting to receive it they'll understand that's not possible.

There are 2 laws really.
1 is driving without tax.
1 is driving without showing a valid tax disc.
It's highly unlikely you'll get pulled randomly, as the police computer won't flag up your car - it's more if they spot it parked or have a real eagle eye.
Something did come in early when you can pay for tax earlier and it did mention displaying the tax disc
