I've just been on the phone to The Turbo Centre (no one buy a turbo from them!!!) and they have come back to me saying that my turbo has failed due to "thrust bearing starvation" ...... Can someone please explain that?
There was plenty of oil there. It had been primed properly. I drove the car 20m and the new hybrid turbo was fucked!
I've now fitted a standard turbo from ebay that i got for £60 and the car now works perfectly.

when you fit a new turbo your meant prime it with oil then leave your motor running, without the boost pipe connected for a while...just to make sure this doesnt happen.
have you taken it off and had a look?

Their actual words were 'thrust bearing starvation'? That doesn't even make sense.

i thought your thrust bearing was in your clutch
i think he means his turbo shaft has been starved of oil..

Wrighty, I had done all of that. There were more than enough oil there.
The turbo has sent off to Garrett to be looked over. TBH the guy just kept on talking and talking and i just switch off. I'm just wanting to know what it means. I'm off back there on sat and hopefully taking someone who knows a thing or two about turbos. If i don't get my money back then i will kick off big time.

Turbos have a thrust bearing to take axial load. (I.E. it stops the shaft from wobbling forwards and backwards).

It wobbled up and down. There was excessive play. It sucked all the oil through and back round into the engine.

I don't know. I'd hope so but it doesn't look like it.

Bigger fins sounds dodgy to me

It had been machined out so that they fit but it's the same size on the outside so no modification is needed to fit to the car.

TBF if Mike did it, it would probably work.

I do wish that MadMike made it. Like John said, it'd worked.
