Yes to the first part, no to the second. Christmas is an attempt to give us something to look forward to, to break up the SHIT that is winter but as Christmas is also shit it doesn't work

Christmas is a waste of time and money. How many times have people got something they don't want, chucked it in the back of a drawer cos they'd feel bad putting it in the bin then told whoever they got it off that they loved it and thanked them for it?

The main problem is when you buy people stuff, they've been struggling to decide what they want so they end up picking something that they sort of half want then they buy you something that you half want. Why not just buy yourself stuff that you actually want instead of wasting everyone elses time cos they all want to get you something that they can 'wrap up'

Once again this year I'll be asking everyone for money, then I can buy the things I actually want, when I want to buy them, as I've done for the last few years. The really pointless thing is tho, the money I get, I'll of already spent on the people I'm getting it off. WTF IS THE POINT?!

Rant over

Oh actually, not yet, Christmas music is also the most annoying thing ever bar Christmas, so STOP PLAYING IT

Think I'm done now

I understand where you're coming from with the commercial side of it all. Buying presents becomes very annoying and tiresome.

However, ignoring the gift side of christmas, I think it generally lifts everyone's moods and just makes it a pleasant time of year. In the two weeks around christmas it seems that everyone relaxes and worries are forgotten for a while. I get to see many members of my family that I wouldn't see all year and I'm able to socialise with mates more.

For me, it's a very enjoyable time of year.

Christmas is great in the village I live in, its a small community so there's a lot of things going on, all the shops open late at night and put on mince pies and sherry and various other foods and drinks, you can just walk round and help yourself and chat to the shop owners, I also love the crisp weather and light nights.

Spot on the money there Mike - had exactly the same conversation with a mate this afternoon after we couldn't get parked in Milton Keynes

My mum works at Marks and Spencer and had some woman moaning at her the other day that:

A - M&S don't offer a christmas wrapping service 12 weeks before the 'big day' and
B - they only offer a 90 day money back guarantee and that expires too early for Christmas

I lol'd at the second
