To be honest, if there's definitely no chance of recovery from an illness, I'm all for it as it saves a lot of heartache watching someone die over a long period of time, and a lot of suffering is avoided.
I can see why there's a lot of controversy though, especially in situations where it's assisted euthenasia and the person doesn't make the decision for themselves because they can't.
I know my dad probably would have taken the option if it was available, it would have been easier for everyone than 2 years of deterioration and knowing there was no chance, however slim, of survival.
But then again, if the doctor told you you'd got 3 months to live you thought "fuck it" went to Switzerland and didn't come back, and the doctor had made a mistake then

I agree with it for things that have got really bad and there's no chance of recovery.
As with everything though, it's hard to decide where the line should be, I certianly wouldn't like to say.

TBH I think its up to the individual, I wouldnt want to live in pain forever () and would much rather end my life than that

came up because both of my grandads and also step grandad are really ill. The step one is almost at a point where he cant make decisions for himself, hes miserable, really aggressive and my mum said in a way for him it would be a better option instead of suffering like he is.
However, its a huge huge huge responsibility on the person you leave the decision with. Sounds daft but they might say yeh its ok but what happens if they change their mind and cant communicate properly? If one of my parents told me it's what they wanted I dont know what I would do. Personally I wouldnt want to put that responsibilty on any one else as at the end of the day, they are the person who has to live with what they have done and I think regardless of what the person wants, it would be an extremely hard and traumatic situation to be put in.

Yeah, totally agree, even if they'd consented 100% and you knew that, it'd be the hardest decision to make regardless. I don't think I could do it, must be really hard

I'm for it to be honest. If I couldn't do anything for myself and knew I'd never recover, what's the point of living.
The only thing I can think of against it, is the person who has to decide to end it, it must be hard for them and for alot of people it'd affect them for the rest of their lives.
