Dave, the throttle has been hard in my Corsa since I bought it. It has been in for numerous services, tyres, exhausts etc & no-one has mentioned the stiffness, so I guess it's normal.

Fair enough, it's just totally different to every other car I've driven so thought something was up. We have a Corsa C Combo at work and that's realyl soft, but oh well, must be a 12v thing

But what does the resonator do 
My mate reckons maybe it's something to do with noise because you can get resonating and non resonating exhausts.
I put the pipe back on today, it feels smoother with it on, was probably struggling to get enough air before
