My girlfriend had some photograph session booked at studio ages ago, and its meant to be tomorrow. Apparenty because she didnt cancel 7 days in advance they will charge her £100 for not turning up which seems excessive. So she says she tied down to going. I dont understand she hasnt signed anything, sounds like such a con to me. They say she can go have her pictures taken and doesnt have to pay anything and gets a free cd of all the pics at the end.

It says all this stuff but is she really legally tied down to it.

How will they charge her? Did she pay a deposit?

What I dont understand is where they state they charge £100 to cover the cost of the team. Why are they being paid £100 to do nothing? If I went into work and was told I had nothing to do id be happy enough without being paid.

Bulter, many agencies will try this sort of thing on.
If she doesn't go, and she has signed nothing tell themto GTF. It may however hurt her rep if she is trying to get this sort of work. If not she has nothing to lose, they can't make her pay.
Be wary of free shoot like this, the photographer owns the rights to the image unless a contract otherwise agrees this, and therefore can use her images how they want.
Not being dodgy, but what are the images for?

im pretty sure that if she writes to her mayor then he can get her her money refunded. this is what my sisters friend did as she was going to another studio in london and had paid a deposit of £100 and she couldnt go and she wrote to the mayor and she got her money back

Probably part of the contratc when payign the deposit
And they arent chartgign for doign nothing, i guess they are chargign because they may not ahve been able to find anyone to take her slot (oo err missus) and thus will be losing out on potential revenue... its quite common practice but she should have been told

I presume you mean local MP rather than Mayor... I doubt Boris Johnson/Ken Livignstone woudl give a FF over £100

firstly i wouldnt bother with those type of photoshoot packages tbh, the end results always look poor :/ but that my pet hate anyway so i could be here for hours talking about it hun
how did she pay deposit?
if it was cash then they have nothing to get any money off her
but as you say there is no contract , how they can just say she has to pay is a joke really. :/

butler is your g/f the one who did the modelling at the car shows? i think i rememrb talking to you ages ago about it???!!
that studio does some nice work, and its basically TFP -time for pictures - tfpcd - is CD included. they can do whatever they want with the pics.
if she paid with Card then id watch out they dont just take the monies.
only thing you can do is speak to her bank and try stopping any payments from that company???? if thats possible !? :?

Your charged because they loose money having no work on due to a cancellation, however they still have outgoings to be met...........
If you went into work & they said nothing on chap your on holiday with no pay it wouldnt be on....well ok maybe once it would be a surprise holiday however if it happened regularly you wouldnt stand for it!!
