Since i had the day off yesterday, i went up to northfolk (160miles there) to have a look at a bike, which bought . but also decided to travel across to Northhampton to jam-sport on my way back (100miles extra) (but just becasue it starting with north, doesnt mean there close together, as i found out ) to see robin and broster hard at work, even saw a red corsa on throttle bodies running!!! then down the M1 to see uncle stavs and antmashed for the evening had some fun in a Corsa C zlet

started with 33miles, returned with 456miles, and petrol light just come on.

anyway, kept between 55-65mph most the time, and managed 450miles to a tank!!! thats 150 more than normal.

which guessing theres 4litres of petrol left, thats 48/49mpg on a standard 1.6 (with EML on!) with wide ratio 5th gear sitting at 2,800rpm at 60mph

and the new bike with will be picking up in a few weeks

Nice bike.

Depends on the car, and the varying degree of force needed to push the accelerator down. The further it goes down, the more juice pumps into the engine. Thus, on my 1.9 tdi, I find my optimal speed is 50-80mph in fifth gear... Quite a large range there, but once you change your foot position so it sits slightly higher - and maintain the correct speed, well watch your MPG rocket

REN = bang on

if I drive with my big toe right on the left hand edge of the accelerator pedal, doing 90 in 6th I can average about 50mpg but its really uncomfortable

If I use all my toes in a normal comfortable position I can get 50mpg at about 75 in 6th

So true Warren, over a long distance your average rpm makes a massive difference on mpg.

its so hard to drive slow though, there no power there with that high 5th gear,

started to use my left foot on the accerator because it was so hard , easier to drive at 75

just driving at a constat speed helps alot,

However, in the 12v, driving at 70mph for long periods of time i.e. motorway driving, it doesn't affect the MPG too much.

Not going passed 3krpm at all in the 12v gets great fuel economy. But then again, it takes ages to get anywhere

Very.

Try driving at 60mph on the M25 though. Fucking dangerous, it just doesn't happen.

You either have to drive obscenely slow, or with the flow of traffic - 70mph-80mph.

I went with all intentions of going down to london for our break and sitting at 60 mph everywhere to see what MPG i could get. 2 minutes down the road I was hoofing it at 90mph overtaking everything, i just cant help myself, im bad on motorways too, i will sit at 65, get bored so floor it to 90 - 100 to overtake some people then go back to 65 again

3/4 of a tank gone and 430 miles showing on the clock, lets see how far i can go JC style
