My dad's company work with a leasing company which lease out cars for "x" each month and his contract shall soon be up for renewal.

He has sent me a list of cars ranging from Alfa Romeo's to Vauxhall Astra's etc

He wants his new car to be:
- Diesel
- Good on mpg (40-50mpg he does a lot of miles)

Just to give you an idea of what he wants in terms of performance his current car stats are:
0-60: 10.3
Top Speed: 122 mph
MPG: 46!

So fairly average ^^

The newer 170bhp Touran stats are:
0-60: 8.7
Top Speed: 133 mph
MPG: 42

Improved stats in comparison but I think he should shop around a bit before he makes his decision!

I've narrowed the cars down to these:
- Audi A4 Estate 2.0 TDI
- Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDI
- Renault Laguna 2.0 TDI
- Skoda Octavia Vrs TDI
- Vauxhall Astra Estate 1.9 TDI (SRi 150ps)
- VW Passat 2.0 TDI
- VW Touran 2.0 TDI 170BHP

Which car would you choose and why?

Sorry for the essay and thanks

Are they all the same class for diesel engines? There's 2 grades for tax, so check them out before choosing

Probably the a4 out of them, i'd be swayed with the octavia vrs though.

Astra wouldn't be getting a look in unless it was much better specced than everything else.

Yea I can understand that the A4 is the better built, better image than the rest but not sure what it's like in terms of performance!

The Astra is good because it's the same spec as the 170bhp Touran he was looking at and can return 50mpg and is almost £50 a month cheaper!!!

Consider ride comfort if he is doing a lot of miles.

He's just rang me and said that he has been to a local Audi dealership and looked at possibly getting the A3 cabiolet (still 2.0 tdi), so much for the estate cars

They do look pretty nice actually and definately have the more "premium" image and feel in comparison to the other cars ^^

Here is the link to the audi website Audi Link

that looks wank

Right a4 nice car - but does he really need a big car like that?

The passat - very nice drive - proper big motorway bruiser! i went on a lengthy drive in one at work and they are mint!

But i would consider the octavia vrs! I think they look very smart and abit sporty at same time! The look mint in that arden blue style colour aswell

If he wants real economy the new 118d is more economical than a Prius.

Although techincally a M3 is more economical aswell (as seen on top gear )
