Dont go for the 1.7, the guys over on AS do not like them, apparently the engines dont come out the factory all the same (weve seen MPG down as low 35 ish driving like a Christian, with no EML's or associated normal problems). They are also a bit wet and should just be left for the work van rag.

Im also annoyed that my 2.0DTi only comes with 98bhp and 167lbft, and a remap sees almost nothing. However I win out on the insurance group of 7 and low emissions. Swings and roundabouts

edit - The 1.9CDTi is insurance group 11 and has a road tax band (2010) of £155. Proper value for money that is

its all sounding good to me

hope i do get the new job i applied for and if so i will have one by next summer.

if i do get one i don't think i would modify it in any way, they don't need anything changing on them at all imo.

dad gets 55mpg out this 1.9 150bhp vectra

only good for motorways, remap totaly changes them, always get a remap !!!

also thing to note, vauxhall are no longer going to use the fiat engines (both the 1.9's) in newer models, and stick with the 1.7 isuzu engine

and dont get one with a dpf system, them always fuck up if you drive, stop start (short journeys)

I had a detailed look around one the other week (3 doors are so much better looking, can't believe all those recommending 5 door!)

Very nice looking car, decent driving position and good seats. Boot is fairly deep, but the opening is no bigger than my Corsa C due to the position of the rear lights. Small rear window too, but then I'm sure you already knew that

Will it be a works car or private buy?

Check the price of new ones online against what you can buy secondhand. When I looked it was cheaper to buy new! Don't forget as much as they don't want you to know it, you CAN have a big discount and 0% over 4 years (think it's still on anyway)

I'd also be inclined to test drive the equivalent focus - i've seen a few kicking around that seem to have an ST-style kit on them that look pretty good .
