i get free travel insurance with my hsbc account and im going diving in the maldives in 4 weeks time so thought id better call them to see if they cover me for scuba

they said they will but i need to have a padi qualification or they wont cover me.
i explained that im doing the referral course over here so will be completing my certificate over there and theyve told me that they wont cover me for that. furthermore, they have said that all my insurance with them will be null and void if i do something that their policy does not cover me for

anyone else been diving abroad? if so what insurance have you had and with what companies?

Yes, I dive every year. Post office cover, including extreme sports or sumat. Can't remember the cost, but it isn't that bad.

Plus, some diving places ask you to pay a small fee for insurance to cover use of a de-comp.

One thing, i'm qualified, whereas your not. I'd be ringing some companies to be honest as you really don't want narcosis with no travel insurance.

totally agree with you there man!

problem is, cos i dont technically get my qualification until i finish it over there, most companies dont seem to wanna know.
they all seem to ask for a full padi qualification which i wont have until i get over there

Yeah it's a toughie. When I did my qualification i went hardcore and did it with no insurance

If you know where your going it's worth ringing them and asking if they can reccomend any companies. As I said, when I was in lanzarote I was asked to pay €3 for use of the de-comp chamber if needed.
