Me and a few friends wants to hire a boat for a day. Prob only a small one that fits about 6 people in. Looked at prices and seems reasonable but do you know if you need a licence or insurance or anything? or does the company cover that?

Thanks

Dont think you need anything then IIRC, and most rental places will cover the insurance.

Are you going to want to get someone to drive it or are you going to do it yourself.

Just because my brothers friend has a boat and he had to get a liscence to drive his on the river/sea etc. Dont know if it would be the same

You don't technically need any license to helm a boat, however most hiring places won't let you loose (in the UK) without at least an RYA level II certificate.

I'm qualified upto Safety Boat level;

plus what kind of boat are you thinking of? Powerboat, Sailboat, canal cruiser,

I've only just seen that you put river so I'm not sure what you would need if it was a barge type cruiser

Canal and river should be fine. I've done it without trouble. Sea on the other hand...
