Rat look is fucking pointless. If you want to carry a load of empty bottles/assorted rubbish around, buy a dustbin lorry.

maybe this threads pointless ?

i can garantee that there will be members viewing the pics thinking yer i like that but wont post becuase they care to much about what others think

hey hows this for an idea, stop giving a shit what others think, if you like it say it/do it

jimmy's bonnet for example, how many of you guys hate it and tell him ? best part about that bonnet is that in theory he is sticking the two fingers up at the guys that dont like it and has the balls to do it, it just so happes to look good

same with asrat etc etc

i wont even get my flamesuit because i really couldnt care whether you like or dis-like my post

BTW cars look kool on the shoot, not sold on the black nova but pictures dont always give credit where its due !

Couldn't do it mate not passed my class yet. but if we can get the d90's to fit and there is room for the optics then we might just do it.

You dont get simple as, people who do or sort of do enjoy it, the ones who dont but find the funny side of the car then thats all good, the guys who backs it gets up then it makes a mockery of you.
The car was built and driven for FUN, and we have had fun doing it, no snobbery, no slander of other cars just a good laugh loads of beer and mint bbq's by my mrs. Its ther whole reason why we do this, a group of mates enjoying working on the car, learning different things along the way and having a good laugh and let your imagination run wild only money and equipment stopping you.
I would do this car again over my old astra any day, 4 years and 30k+ to 6 weeks and a grand in total.
The rat attitude to shows and meets is the same, you go to see cars and mates not to fuck about polishing pointless shit, the whole cleaning kit consists of metal polish and a rag for asrat, And to compete and bitch against others. Asrat and all the other rat cars are all secret winners.

But what is the point in carrying a load of rubbish around on your roof?

Also. its hardly making a mockery of others is it? If you want to drive around in something that effectively looks like a knackered car, thats up to you, but IMHO, it looks crap and pointless. Not wanting to spend money on tidying a car up is a bit different from purposely making it look worse.

I can kind of see the point in having the rusty panels and checkers (i'm presuming you want it to look like an bhangra taxi, yes?), but random tit tat, not quite. I daresay it would possibly be better on something a bit "cooler" than an Astra Estate, but meh.

dear mr Welsh dan,

ime sure that most people on here would really value your opinion and so would i, but you really do go about it in the worst possible way. have you ever sat back and read one of your posts ? try and be a little more positive, maybe something along the lines of

" i dont really get the point of this rat look ? but at the end of the day everyone has different tastes"

maybe then you would get more respect from members ?

i dont get it.

i was always under the impression rat look was on old veedub's and the like, when its genuine original paint thats worn/faded/rubbed off. not some vauxhalls which have had the paint sanded off the bonnets. it just doesnt look right. maybe on a mk1 nova, maybe, but not those. it looks too fake to me.

My understanding too Martin, I thought Rat was American hot/rods/old campers & beatles that had been neglected over the years & usually owned by some hobo not a teenager in a modern hatchback with intentional rust patches

This is supposidly Rat - http://farm1.static.flickr.com/100/265353729_b640abe163.jpg?v=0

imo its a waste because it could be restored into a lovely splitty, not a horrible mess!!

i dont have the money for a 360 modena but you dont see me going out and buying rosso red and having a bash at painting my car do you.

he's referring to the cars in the pics obviously. i really like jimmy's van but the bonnet just looks shit. its like buying a tidy old vw or whatever, and thinking, hmmm, do i make this rat look, or stick a flycatcher kit to it?

Why do I have to dress it up?

If I don't like something, whats the point in beating around the bush? Why do I have to be positive about the whole matter? Surely when you do something like this, you are opening yourself for both positive and negative comments? I did mention in my last post that it was only in my opinion. If people don't wish to hear negative criticism, then they shouldn't post pictures up.

I also noticed that nobody mentioned why they carry rubbish about on the roof?

Anyhow, I didn't realise this was the "i've come to get some respect off some computer pixels" forum However, I might suggest getting your own house in order before criticising the manner of my posts, because as you stated previously,

Tbh you do anything at all and there are going to be people who like it and don't like it. Stuff like rat look is where you're going to get a lot of people that don't like it and think you've turned a car into a shed, but then you will get the odd person come along and appreciate it. Personally I think some rat looks are ok, but things like that split screen shouldn't be allowed. All T1/2 VW's should be restored to their former beauty and not covered in rust.

I find the Asrat quite interesting, and like Jimmy's car, not sure on the Nova though.

Lol at the teenager, Im 26 and mat is 32 may behave like one but the days have gone of viper stripes and drinking 20/20 in a park.

And you can not see how its making a mockery? well look at your posts your getting worked up over how you hate the rat look, and critise the car ect.
Well that is what it takes the piss out of, the fact the too many people into this modified car scene the build there cars to fit in with the crowd then preach about being different. We fuck around with cars because we enjoy it be all and end of it. Its not like we have done this because we have no clue about modifying cars, my last astra is being featured in total vauxhall and Mat would have had his car featured twice in main stream magazines.

We did this as well as the other lads for a laugh, to do something different in the vauxhall scene, instead of looking at astras with gsi and irmscher kits and corsa with combat bumpers all day, with people spending all day bitching.

And To distress the paint takes a lot more work than you would think, sanding dosnt weather it.

As for the rubbish on the roof, I would have you know that is fair whack of pricless retro cool on there.

And the rat look isnt vw's own and thats it. Its come from the states, the vw rats came about when people were in the midst of restoring old vw's and bringing them to the shows half done. using old parts ect, the cars had certain cool factor about and snowballed from there on.

Ány car can have a style done to it. they all have windows doors, wheels and engines, differeance being is the badge that seperates the two

What teenager?

Anyhow, i'm not getting worked up. Just because I disagree with your point of view, it doesn't mean I actually get bothered about it. FFS

Quite frankly, I don't have to drive it and so I couldn't care less how you ruin your car, but I just don't see the appeal of rat look and don't see the point of it. I'm also not a fan of silly bodykits and the like either, but at least I can understand why people do that.

I also disagree with the junk being "priceless retro cool". The only thing that I can see that I believe to be retro or cool is the bicycle. I see a beer keg, Jack Daniels bottle from a bar, a crate and some empty bottles. Basically, stuff you can rob from the back of a pub
