Hi all

finally got round to signing up to the boards today.

I currently have a 2.2 Astra Mk4 SRi, which I quite close to putting up for sale, in favour of something a bit more wedding/first home friendly as i am getting married in December and planning first home with fiancee around Sept.

At the moment I have found a few 1.4 16v Sport B's on W/X plates.

Just wondering if anyone can give any helpful tips on what to look for on the Corsa B's when looking round them.

And are the Baby XE sports good reliable cars more importantly as i will have a 25/30 mile commute to work

If i could find the perfect one it would be W/X reg under 70k on the clock, arden blue with 16in softstars........but most likely not possible.

I know its alot of questions, but any help would be great

Thanks in advance

Ben

No reason why you shouldn't find a late one under 70k and the wheels aren't difficult to come by.

Look out for body corrosion in the usual places, B pillar, boot lid at the base of the spoiler and the wiper arm, chassis legs under the bulkhead if you're able to get underneath.

Make sure it's not smokey and idles nice and you should be OK.

Welcome to the site

Just keep an eye on the usual places, AT, pistonheads, ebay & classifieds on here aas its not a rare car so you should find one easy enough.

1.4 & 1.6 sport probably wont be miles away regarding cost so dont dismiss the 1.6 straight away.

yeah was lookin at the 1.6's would be nice to stay over 100 brake , only problem is it puts me back in the higher tax bracket....were i love B's and want to make it look good, its mainly a money saving exercise. The insurance will most likely half over my Astra fingers crossed.

Look for rust on chassis behind the sills too under the driver and passenger hinges, coz mine needed patching up for an MOT on my old GSi.

No worries, have been looking at them recently, it's a 1.4 16v sport, arden blue, lowered 60mm, im not sure what the wheels are exactly but they are white, i have all the standard parts for it though, bit old for you though as its an R reg with 90 000 on the clock

yeah i dont really wanna more than a year older than the astra if i can help it.

The mk4 astra's are fantastic cars, and i'm still not 100% if i can part with her lol. but i guess realistically needs must.

thats it at Billing

rotten chassis legs is the most common and worst problem on the corsa, if your looking for a late one they shouldn't have gone but just check them anyway.

my corsa was a 1.6 16v on an S reg solid shell no rust at all barr the boot where the bottom of the spoiler is and a little bit on the bonnet. as for the engines there pretty sound if they have been looked after but i know a lot of my mates had headgasket troubles with them, so just check theres no mayo in the oil cap.

£2700 for a T reg corsa is stupidly high, you could get a corsa C for cheaper than that. have a look on ebay, my corsa was a minter once i took all the chav tat the previous owner put on and i only paid £500 for it. i wouldn't pay more than £1500 for one mate
