Theres a bit more rust on my golf than I thought there was, so will be looking at getting rid sometime when I come back from holiday.
Will have easily 1k may be able to push to 2k at the most, I want something a bit different for a 17 year old (I drive a tdi golf with a towbar now ). Have heard of young people getting ok insurance on mk1 MR2's.
So Im after something a bit different and with a bit of poke. Ideas?

Im open to suggestions, but just want something different. Have been looking at mk4 golfs and leons but decent ones are about 2k or more.
I just don't want something you associate with 17year olds (hence currently driving a Golf TDI)

Have you considered insurance antnee on the sort of cars you are looking at? Id be surprised if many insurers would touch you on a lot of this stuff?
edit - I got my 2001 (Y) Astra 2l DTi for £2000, came with 8 months MOT and 5 months Tax as well, 65k on the clock.

james_suffolk if you have a crash and the insurance company suspects its your car your insurance will be void. Also, that must be a typo of 9 years no claims?
edit - cheers Deano, yea im waiting for something to go wrong tbh

james how can you have 9 NCB if your almost 18?
Did think about astra's before I bought the golf, but IMO they are becoming the new car to have for chav's.
Have thought about Civic's before, would have to be a ek one though

Admittedly the MK4's, in 1.4 and 1.6 guise, are the ones sought after by chavs. If you were to buy one and leave it standard however it would 'stick out from the crowd' so to speak
They also look very good if you purchase some of the Irmscher bits as well. The 1.8SRi (when i last looked) was a surprisingly low insurance group too, making it a nippy, economical and generally decent car to own
