Obviously we all know that men are meant to have 2500 calories a day, but what is this based on?

Had a quick look on google and it said average exercise, but when i walk with my job in the mornings i do 15-odd miles, which according to my phone is about 2500 calories a day anyway, does that i mean i should be eating 5000 calories a day?

GDA is just a guideline so you should eat as many calories as you require. Different for everybody.

You can work out how many calories you burn during the day by finding out roughly how much each of the tasks you do you require.

Though you could just make a rough guess, the GDA would include the 30 mins of recomended daily exercise which is walking. If you walk for more than 30 mins then you could up your intake of calories, but 5000 calories is a hell of a lot of food - it's what you would be eating (and need!) if, for example, you were living in Canada where it is colder than -20 all the time during the winter and you were engaged in exercise all day long. (It's what we were roughly eating when I was a ski instructor there and we weren't putting on weight!).
