That's what I was trying (and failing) to describe haha, I was tired at the time.
If someone was robbing something then they don't care about making it obvious or minimizing personal suffering, they just want to get the stuff and leave, and these people decided to lock the car to make it even more annoying.

I think you'd be surprised. I know a very large number of people who are addicted to an array of substances. The vast majority of who, on interview report preference for shop lifting and stealing from companies, purely because they wouldn't like to be the sort of person who targets individual people and causes pain and upset to them. I think to assume that in the process of burglary or breaking into cars that a thought would not be passed re. the owner's is naive.
I think your view that people with substance abuse problems care only about money and their respective substances is both silly and indeed a large part of the problem in this country... but thats an entirely separate issue.
