I'm after a clio 182 at the moment and just watched this.
Very surprised that the Civic beat the Clio round the track and Tiff Needell reckons the civic is far superior?

I used to own the EK4 VTI VTEC and used to have to rev the tits off it to get it too go quickly.
The type r the same?
Love a car with torque lower down.

172 cup will be sharper on handling and quicker imo.
as it's lighter than the 182.

I'd save a bit of Money and go with the Clio. Not a huge fan of that shape civic anyway.

I am currently trying to make a decision as to which of these to maybe get as a next car.
Driven both
182: feels a little sharper and nice and compact to throw around. Only downer I could really think of is the driving position is a little strange and I wasnt a fan of the wheel as it was a bit big and had a bit of a dead spot in the middle before it began to turn.
Civic: felt like a more refined car still felt just as nimble but you do notice the extra size.
Speedwise both felt the same and both loved to be taken up the revs to get the most out of them.
Clio was a 182 with both cup packs
CTR was a standard 05 car
Really dont know which I prefer main thing swaying the clio slightly is the £200 I will save on insurance over the CTR
Drives supercharged Tec with torque

2 good mates of mine had a 55 plate clio 182 and the other had a 52 plate CTR EP3
The clio was putting out 179bhp and the CTR made 186bhp both on the same day at the same rollin road. I was in both and on the way the Clio was being pushed all the time by the CTR same story on the way back and that was a mix of twisty roads and motorway driving.
The Clio IMO was VERY rattly inside and you could hear every squeak which done my head in after a while, not to good for a 55 plater.
The CTR on the other hand was soooooo much better made and felt loads more powerful. I was very suprised how much pulling power it had and the VTEC was pretty impressive
I'd have a CTR anyday now that i've been in one.
The only one that I would buy tho is the JDM Spec EP3 which comes which a hell of a lot more that the UKDM one

There that close its down to the driver IMO..
I am dead level all the way to about 130 where we backed off with my mate in his, we went round curborough and our times were pretty much identical.
My clio doesnt rattle or squeak either... my mate with the type R really likes my clio, and im also a big fan of the type R, so we drive each others regularly
Oh and the civic will feel more refinded etc, thats why it cost about 3k more than a 182 new.
Also on the vid, if they wernt driving like idiots it would be a fairer comparasent

anyone ever thought that the honda is better and if tiff nedell (an actual good driver and not one who just thinks he's a track day hero) say's it is good, then it's better than then clio?

I've been a type r hater for as long as I can remember but my manager is driving one as his demo at the moment. Had it on a good run the other day and I've honestly never had so much fun in a car.

for me the CTR is a better package, i had a mate who a while back had a 30th anni in red and recently another who had a 172 cup.
the CTR just felt abit special as soon as you got it, recaro seats(ok not standard but you get bucket seats as standard)
also the civic has a fantastic engine and gearbox combo and has more room inside than the clio.
dont get me wrong i think the clio is a cracking car, just as fast as the ctr and handles superbly. but i think the interior isnt very sporty and on 172s same cant be said for the exterior, though you could argue thats a good point and makes them more discreet.
now all you have to do is work out if you personally think the civic is worth the extra money...and insurance...and fuel

The thing with all this vtec stuff for me is that if you want to have fun you have to drive it at 100% other wise its just dog slow, I loved the handling and brakes on the integra type r i drove not that long ago and it wasquick enough in a straight line, but theres no middle ground. Its either balls out or nothing.
