Right ive gotta replace the alternator and the belt on my 1.0 12v, except to get the belt off you need to remove the engine mount. I dont have an engine trolley to support the weight. Also whats the easiest way to remove and replace the alternator? I picked up one from scrappy this morning for £20.

Stick a trolley jack under the engine or bricks, or wood or whatever really.

It says that it should only take 10 mins to replace the alternator, but it took man in scrappy about an hour to get the damn thing out!!!! Mostly because there are bolts at the very back which need to be held in place. I can prob find some block or bricks or whatever to hold the engine up while i replaced the belt, just a bit unsure cos ive never done anything like this before. Does the belt tension itself, or is there a bolt i need to tighten up to make it taut? Got a haynes manual to read, so it shouldnt be that bad.

If you're unsure; Haynes is your friend and a worth while investment.
