If you are close enough to land to use the on shore towers use them otherwise most cruise ships have a cell tower but they cost you a lot more to use.

How do i know such a random piece of information?

Most cruise ships will have a base station on board yeah, will be expensive though!

Most of them re-route via Iceland and silly places like that, so you pay horrendous roaming charges.
