Or can this not be done at the same time? Been attending the local gym for two years now and everytime i sort my diet out and eat well i put on size, both muscle and a bit of fat, then when i try to loose the fat i loose the muscle too, its like a vicious circle

Naturally, it's virtually impossible.

Even if you're eating as clean as you can, on a calorie surplus you will put on small levels of fat, it's inevitable. I find it easy to burn the fat so I usually bulk for long periods of time, 3/4 months, and then cut down to a reasonably low bodyfat. You won't get anywhere trying to gain muscle/lose fat simultaneously, focus on one or the other.

EDIT: My progress has come much more quickly since I dropped the mentality of needing a six-pack all year round. I know some blokes think abs are like the holy grail of attracting women but don't be scared to gain a little bit of fat. You can lose it in the end. Of course, there is the option of a slow bulk which takes longer but keeps fat gain to a minimum.

eating high calorie/high sugar food wont give you bigger muscles.

www.bodybuilders.com

all about the diet, plenty of protein.

Think im just going to continue bulking because going away in 3 weeks and doubt ill be able to loose that layer of fat before then so will just prepare for next year. I take the 100% Optimum whay which i think is great, norma day for me is:

7am Shake 2 scoops
8am Weetabix
10am Banana/Apple
12/1pm Pasta/ tuna/ chicken sarnies
5pm nuts and train for an hour
6.30pm Normal family tea, usually currie or sunday dinner etc
9pm shake before bed

Which was fine but now im in my new job in a call centre its all going on my stomach and read numerous articles prooving that cardio is pointless for burning fat and dont want to eat less for the chance of loosing that hard earned muscle but i think its the only way, ie. cut out breakfast and just stick to a shake in the morning, eat less for dinner and tea.

Cardio pointless for loosing fat? Thats wrong mate, to loose fat eat 500ish kcals below maintenance, life weights still and do some steady state cardio 3 times a week.

Seriously have a read on bodybuilders.com it's all there

TBF im not sure this is the right thing to do but the idea behind it is to reapir the muscles through the night whilst the body rests.

Ill try find a link to the article that trys to proove cardio is pointless for burning fat, although i think the idea behind it is that by doing an hour on the treadmill will burn 400-450 calories, the body burns 160 calories an hour anyway without excercise so thats 200 extra calories burnt, your then hungry/ need engery and therefore need to eat more that you would have it you hadnt done the excercise thus putting the extra 200 calories back on.

Brabus, sounds like you are pretty much eating right but you would need to up your protein intake.
Protein is burnt a lot faster than carbs and supports your muscle at the same time. So more chicken, turkey, fish the better.
When you say you take 2 shakes a day. What type of shake is it ?

If you want to cut fat but keep or even gain muscle then you might want to look into creatine..
you need to do roughly 30mins of HARD cardio per gym session along with a well structured weights program. along side this i would say to try and put a 500cal deficit per day (this will help loose fat)

its not the easiest thing to do but it is possible.

Also take your shake just after your gym session. then to keep slow release protein in your system eat cottage cheese before bed cos thats the time you are most likely to loose muscle

hope some of that made sense

Its 100% optimum whey gold standard, 180 calories per sevings which is quite low and 24g of protein.

Cottage cheese before bed is a good shout, tried peanut butter but wasnt working at all. Funny you should mention creatine as i ordered some off myprotein on friday and im hoping it will be here today as people rave about it.

low intensity cardio... 40 mins fast paced walk/light jog. 3 times a week. Keep diet at a good level and you ll burn off fat and not muscle. It will take time but end results will be worth it!
