cheapest i can get is about 1600 for insurance
Have you tried confused.com, as i'm with Endsleigh, and I found them on there, plus with them my sound system is covered for if it gets stolen, and all mods are declared without any rise on insurance, they are brilliant.

I'd disagree. They asked £1300 for lowering

To be fair, they are more than a capable car. A lot better than 12v imho.

1.2 8v's are bad. The age old theory of no replacement for displacement with 12v and 1.2 8v doesn't figure

A golf for £1000 im guessing would not be too great ?
for 1k a golf would be like N or P reg 1.4 and there not powerful at all.
Vw 1.4 were like 60hp
I also have a grand to spend and think ill go for a 1.4 sport or even a nice low miles 1.2 16v.
No offence buy you dont even have a licence, best to get a total shitter for a 1st car, something £500 like an L reg sri ect.
Could get an ok 1.4 sport for £1000 maybe a v reg if your lucky.
If you can read, Im looking at TDi's not 1.4's
Also if you look further down the forum, yesterday I posted that I passed my test
I can read and it does not say I just want a TDI.
1.9 Tdi's are not that rapid.
For someone whos 17 you seem to know it all, obviously the advice from people who have been there done that and who are trying to help you is total rubbish.
Go and buy Tdi for 1k with 200,000 miles on the clock, get insured for £2000, crash it write it off and then be fooked for getting insured in anything other then a cinquecento.
Welcome to the world of driving have fun.

17, needs to be quick, and not too bad on insurance. Your in for a shock then! Won't be getting anything quick at 17 mate, no offence. Get something cheap on insurance and save your money for a couple of years then you can start looking at 'quickish' cars.

Im amazed someone like you can pass the theory.
It does not say I ONLY WANT A TDI.
If you want a golf tdi, get one.
Its a corsa forum, of corsa im going to say get a corsa.
There good first cars.
You should get a lambo there pretty cheap and fast and not too expensive on the insurance, group 17 I think.
What ever you buy it will probably get stolen or shot at in notts

another vote for the 306 TD here.
ive got one at the mo as a run around and its probably the quickest car thats insurance friendly at your age being group 5, bearing in mind that nippy small engined 'warm' hatches like t he 1.6 sport, fiesta zetec s are around group 11.
the 306 is far from perfect, old design engine thats noisy and not as smooth as modern diesels but with 90bhp and not a heavy modern car it is rather brisk on the move and even on long trips its comfy and handles well.
