after hitting something (no idea what it was) and damaging my front bumper it needs respraying,what are the legalaties of driving with no front bumper?

Its illegal to drive without one because all the sharp bits of metal which are exposed beneath could hurt someone in a collision etc.
But tbh ive driven without one before,slapped my numberplate on the front and i never got pulled.

yes but they could do you for driving a car in an un road worthy state then 
If something breaks on a car your ment to fix it straight away or not drive it till its fixed.
