Depends on the fish and your set up.
£100 on one in a shitty tank is too much, £500 on one in an amazing tank isnt.

I bought a couple of new fish over the weekend...I am currently stocking:
1 Gold Gourami
1 Red Tailed Black Shark
2 Firemouths (Male and Female)
2 Kribs (Male and Female)
6 Zebra Danio
3 Silver Dollars
4 tiger barbs
Come September 2009 I am upgrading my tank to something huge...maybe a 450 litre...
Over the weekend I also changed my substrate from gravel to sand...looks much better...the fish seem to love it too!

I spyhon the shite out each week and replace about 15-20% of the water - otherwise you'll get a build up of nitrates and it'll end up killing the fish.
Make sure you use dechlorinator on water going into the tank. Make sures it around the temp of the tank as temp flucuations will kill some fish. Make sure you only wash filter media (sponges, bio-balls, lava rock, etc.) and gravel with USED tank water - dont use fresh water as this will kill off the filtering bacteria and you'll do some serious harm to the tank!

Ive got everything here to set the 7fter up, I just have to decide what Im doing
Have the 5fter at my apartment that is empty as Im not there enough for the upkeep.
And I have a 7fter at my parents but dont want to set that up just yet as may well sell the apartment and move to my own house soon if I can find somewhere I like. And dont want the hassle of emptying the big tank, moving it, and setting it back up again on the same day - doing that with my 5fter was a big enough job!
