Hello!

I'm setting up a website and would like to give it a go myself first before having to pay someone else bundles of cash to do it.

Can anyone suggest a decent how to or step by step site to have a look at and recommend some easy to us (preferably free) software?

Any help much appreciated

cheers

business one - letting and estate agency. Don't need any search facilities, just separate pages like a homepage, lettings, sales, contact, about etc.

Ideally something i can maintain myself as i'll be uploading different properties quite regularly.

If you want to be taken seriously then pay someone. A 5 or 6 page basical webapge wont cost the world.

yeh i'd just like to be able to do it for myself rather than rely on someone else. Am sourcing a copy of dreamweaver to start off with and already bought the web address.

Its one thing doing it yourself, its another coming up with a good graphic design and then putting it into a web format that is compliant for all users on different platforms.

This is who i used to work for - www.apartmentsofmanchester.com

I like the way its relatively simple and straight forward, and want something similar. Their new web guy has fcked up the layout and some links don't work now either which was why i wanted a fair understanding of it all incase of those kind of problems.

They used to use Livedata and now use an estate agency software package which i'll probably invest into if it takes off

How many of you are actually Graphic or Web designers?

If this a business your planning on making money from, don't scrimp on the main parts of a business. Go to a real designer and get a proper website done, not one that looks like someones just got hold of a "Website for Dummies" book.

Not sure why i've wasted my time replying as most people already decided that they want to cut corners and get a mate of a mate to make a crap site for them

P.S - For a small site like that, not much is required for it you'll be looking at a few hundred.

Take a look on www.pinkpetrol.com under showcase

I'm a product design student. But under that title I do a lot of graphic design. I've done a lot of work in HTML and CSS. Plus PHP, but that isn't really important for this.

Been working as a freelance web developer for 8 years. I was also at a web design firm for 3 years commercially back when I was a teenager. As I said on another thread... I'm pretty busy for the next week or two but I'd be happy to take on more work after.
