i'm measuring the tensions of yarns in a weaving machine for a calibration. we have got these new tension metre's that read in cN where as our old ones were in kg. therefore i need to convert to kg.

1 newton is the equivalent of 1kg acting at the force of gravity ie. 9.81m/s^2 at the Earth's surface

Get away from centiNewtons; its just not used. Scientifically you could use millinewtons of kilonewtons but centinewtons doesn't really have a place.

1 Newton = 0.102 kg force

or in other words

1 kilogram Force = 9.80665Newtons

therefore 0.01Newtons [equivalent to your centiNewton] would be the equivalent of 0.001019716 kilogram force [at acceleration of gravity]

all i can tell you is the tension instrument says cN on the guage. why the fuck some turd has changed these i dont know. the old ones that read in kg were fine.

yes, newtons is a weight or force, KG is a mass

Not sure why tension would be measured in KG's though
