i sold my car late last year, just wondered how long my ncb last before they expire, and whats the easiest way to keep them (i.e. buy a shitter and insure it to stay still)

2 years is usually the standard I've found for both car and bike.

depends on insurance companies; mines upto 3 years; but all insurers are difficult and you may find you need to go back to the previous insurer to get the NCB

You can have it put on hold though, not sure how, ring up your last insurer
