They are good off road, think they are prone to rust though. jeep cherokees are easy to pick up cheap.

the foutrak is excellent offroad.. alsmost the same chassis and suspension as the sj but has a 2.8td compared to the sj 1 or 1.3

you will struggle with bits tho... the offroad parts market for the fourtrak is very small.

So i would recommmend a sj over one, if you can find one with either a vitara engine or a derv (the 1.5td from a corsa is quite common conversion on a manta box)

Again cherokees are good and cheap but struggle for parts most are expensive and need to be imported.

End of the day if your budget is less that 1k get an SJ if its more like 1.5 - 2k then get a 200tdi 90 as the parts like suspension are cheaper than chips

I am, check my garage for a couple of pics. Will upload some more when it's all finished.

EDIT: Pick up a cheap 200 disco, parts are widely available and they're very good off road

SJs are very capable for the money although Disco/90 are generally easier to buy bits for.
