Nothing out the ordinary/anything you wouldnt normally check when going to look at a car. The red ones fade if they havent been polished regularly but thats about it

go for oe which is completely standard, and has a good history. depending on the mileage of it really. if its got about 60k or more id like to think it should have had a new turbo or will be needing one too.

A lot of them have had a pretty hard life

Try and find the cleanest standard one you can.

I'm not too sure of that statement, surely it depends on the type of driving that the engine has carried out, e.g. the difference between one which has been doing a lot of "on-boost" driving, compared to one which is more used to motorway driving.

More important than that would be the timing belt IMO. They should be done every 40,000 miles (or 4 years I think, so early ones with low milage should be looking to have it done.) Probably wise if the water pump has been done at the same time.

Apart from that, the usual FSH etc...

yes mine is on 54k and it holds standard boost and does not smoke or nothing its spot on, so that statement of 60k is wrong

air flow meter seems to be biggest problem ive heard of i have had to change mine month ago but apart from that its bin most reliable car ive owned

bit boring to drive but are fun if you drive it the way it wants to be driven not way you want to drive it
