Completely correct Bonney.

Was only shown by students as teachers are usually busy, not bad at welding at all but I wouldn't and didn't know what to do today.

Luckily it wasn't me who set it alight and I was only talking.

By the way, I didn't need to turn the acetylene off as I wasn't working with it, Timb. Iian was working with it thus having to turn it off.

The oxygen was on, so can cause a flashback, therefore a reaction can happen almost immediately !

and thats why the bottles legaly have to be fitted with flashback arresters, a college would have done this
if the bottles set on fire they wouldnt just explode, those cannisters are pretty thick and take a while to get hot enough to explode

Not a clue on the burning times but I don't think anybody wanted to stick around to see how long it took tbh.

I mean, it wouldn't have been that bad but even all of the tutors seemed pretty shaken up by it.

They are taking this pretty seriously and even had tutors complaining that the college could have gone up and were not warned because the alarm didn't go off (took somebody a while to smash the glass).

So to summarise:

Amatuers were fucking around with dangerous equipment that they hadnt been trained to use. A small flame appeared on a nozle and caused panic even though no danger was caused due to safety equipment installed on the tanks?

Drama queen.

No, But if my mates hand was on fire i'd help him in anyway i could. I wouldnt grab my pencil case and run like a bastard.

Verge of blowing up? Give it a rest drama queen.

When the lad ignited the flame, the spark caught onto the tube, which had an unnoticable loose connection, then set the rest torch and nozzle alight - thats what made it seem our mates hand was on fire and why he then threw it down.

What may happen with this is the college will investigate, and take internal action eg each pupil will possably get a warning or be suspended depending on what the college sees fit, and possably the same with the lecturers.

its more likely to be recorded as a near miss and reported to the HSE who should investigate it, i doubt the pupils will get in any bother if they havnt had training on the equipment and just been told to use it or how to check it over for possible faults
