Well I've got the cash all lined up for a nice RX7, get my quote in from Bell, £1500. Great, I think, considering I had a bump last year.
So anyway, ring them up to give them the plate as I didnt have it for the first quote and get "Ummmm, ah, it seems there's been some sort of error sir, the premium will in fact be £5500..."
WTF. So anyway, having had a mini embolism after this, I decide to try a few other places, least I've been quoted is between 2 and 2.5k.
Still waiting on a few more quotes coming through, then for a laugh decided to try one of the German insurers we know through work. Now I'd have to get the car imported and change some things that aren't TUV approved but guess at my yearly quoted premium (as it works out in £)
£2000?
£3000?
Nope. £600.
Six hundred f-ing quid. A year.
So the moral of the story is, "if you don't like insurance prices in the UK, fuck off to Germany with your car."

Apparently not. You have to use TUV approved parts, and they won't pass anything like an exhaust you can smuggle Albanians in, but they're fairly flexible.
Im just considering if I should buy the car, leave it garaged in the UK for a couple of months til I have the time to do all the importing stuff.

When i was in the army, i was posted in Germany. I was insured on a c20let corsa with all mods declared for around 350 quid, cant remember exact amount. At 18! That was with UK access, so i could use it at home. The car never actually spent one day in Germany

That was a forces policy though, so its ment for when your on leave etc. Needed a form from the army if i had a accident to confirm i was on leave. But they would just hand anyone them

In my double bed.
And wilson, it's crazy isn't it. No speed limits on the motorways, free to roam over Europe without risk of sinking in the channel, and still pay less.

Yeh i know mate, they do have a much less accident rate over there though. Better roads and not so many people drive like fannys.

The system is slightly different too from what I can gather. If there is a rare car they sometimes cost less to insure than something more common, as there is more crash history.
Example, RX7 costs much less than a Golk Mk2 would.
