okies,

around where i live, there is a national speed limit road, which goes into a 40 limit for about 1/4 mile, then back to national again.

basically my mate was going through this 40 zone relatively quick, then just before the national zone was back in there was a copper on the other side of the road, in a layby, facing the opposite direction.

anywhos, hes come flying up behind us and pulled us over, said that we were 'flying' past him, could here us coming miles off etc. (this is rubbish but i will explain later.)

right so hes pulled my mate over and given him a good bollocking about his speed, his colleague is looking at the car, checking treads and tax etc. then we wait for the inevitable PNC check on my friends licence.

the copper then comes and sits on the sill of the car, all friendly with us, then says "come on then boys, how fast was he going"

i said, "mate there is no way im going to be able to tell you that"

he just laughed, but pressed on, but the subject changed. i was talking to him about what is going to happen to my mate, he replied that my friend was getting referred to the courts for speeding.

this confused me slightly, but anyway, i asked if the police officer had proof, he said he had, then insisted on showing me the ins and outs of his cop car, showing me how the system works, i said "this is very interesting, but can you show me the footage of my friend 'flying' past you?" he said he couldnt because it was on a hard drive in the back of the car.

this is where i start feeling a bit confused.

as i get out of the car there is a comment about how they wouldnt show me anyway, as it was none of my business, i agreed and said show my friend then, but they laughed it off.

they then gave me and my other mate, the other passenger in the car at the time, a right lecture about how we should tell my mate to slow down, when he is driving dangerously or fast.

he didnt breathalyse the driver.
he said that he would get a court summons, but didnt give the driver any paper work.
he never said exactly what speed my friend was doing, although making it clear he had locked onto him usuing his camera and computer. all he would say is 80+
he also said he heard us from miles away but we were stuck behind a coach for at least halfway through the 40 zone, so thats physically impossible.

was these two characters putting the fear of god into my mate? i have a sneaking suspicion that they were. what are your opinions?

btw, im not a mouthy jackass chav who argues with the police, and i openly condone dangerous driving. i was polite wasnt agrumentative the entire way throught the conversation.

sensible suggestions and opinions only please. thanks.

Sounds to me like nothing much will happen. I got pulled moons ago for doing about 60 in a 30 at about 4 in the morning, he pulled me over asked how fast I was doing I said about 30 and he said you and me both know thats a lie I said "its not I was doing about 30, the exhaust makes it sound quicker" , he just started to check my car over for about 10 minutes and had to let me go, he was on his own and couldnt prove a thing. As it was a small town he had it out for me after that then and pulled me all the time. To sum it up, highly unlikely anything more will happen.

Im afraid im gonna go the opposite way from Jay on this one.

I got 'caught doing "35" in a 30 at 2am on a kind of country road.

The Police car was at the side where it couldnt have seen me coming untill i was passed it. They caught up with me and asked who's car it was etc. (i was 18 and driving my Mums BMW) so they done checks etc and could get nothing to go against me so continued with the whole lecture thing saying i was going to kill someone and so on.

Anyway , They gave me no peice of paer or anything and sent me on my way saying i'd hear soon. Everyone told me i'd hear nothing of it and so on. 4 months later i had a summons to court for driving without due care and attention to the road signs or markings (basically speeding but without the actual evidence or a figure.)

Went to court with a shit hot lawyer and got a £150 fine and no points.

Unless its an FPN (points) or a Non-endorsable fine(just a fine) then they wont give you anything.

Any good lawyer should see your mate off the hook IF it goes to court as they dont have sufficient evidence for his speed (assuming thats what the summons is for).

If they claim him to have been dangerous driving, which in fairness he was, Then he's fucked as he was carrying passengers which courts take seriously. And they dont need any evidence for dangerous driving other than saying he could have endangered his passangers.

Again, A good lawyer should seem him off lightly with it.

Untill he knows what he's being reported for though he cant exactly get a lawyer.

Hard drive - Only traffic cars have these and they would only show him it of they wanted to lecture him or give him points on the spot, But since there taking it to court they really dont have to waste any more time with your mate other than get his details from him. Thats if the car did have it fitted of course.

All in all, If it was a traffic car , He's fucked cos they fuckers have speed detection which is forward facing so they would have got him if they have it and they have video footage.

Im not a cop but had a mate who went through 98% of what your saying and this is everything that was mention about the evidence/car equipment/road type.

Hope this helps.

Edit: Tell your mate to stop going through 40 zones 'relatively quick' before he makes the mistake of his life. Fucking knob.

They couldn't provide proof and you never admitted to anything. Theres nothing going to happen. They do it round my way all the time. If you don't admitt to driving over the speed limit they have no evidence. They just wanted to shit you up and get you to confess.

also had it round our way, i'd come onto a slip road pretty fast, police car was quite a way behind but he saw me enter the dual carriage way quickly but by the time he caught up i was doing 70. he kept saying i had 3 options,

1.take a fine and points
2.go to court to contest
3.he'll let me off because he feels like being nice

Funnily enough he felt like being nice, but too be honest it was more likely because he had no proof and wanted to shite me up.

I was doing 70+ in a 30 at about 11pm on a dead road (was in a massive hurry, gf's sister had gone into labour lol) and went past a police car that was parked up, as soon as i saw it turning around i just gunned it and pulled into someones driveway, ducked down and turned off the engine/lights

nothing ever came of it

Yeah I thought I was screwed, I knew that if they did catch me I would definately lose my license, so if I lost them before they had a chance to catch up I at least had a chance, I also removed all the stickers (Ripspeed, alpine lol) from all over my car the next day and prayed to god that their onboard cameras were not running. I have slowed down a lot now though lol
