I have just paid a bit of cash having the cambelt kit and water pump replaced, but now the shells have gone really dont know how many more parts i can afford to replace, so 2 questions really, how easy is it to replace the bottom end shells? I have quite a bit of knowledge but have never done this b4.Heard its a dirty job but pretty simple to do?

Or where could i get a reconditioned engine, early model 1.4 8v SRi? In the Chester area.

Any help would b much appreciated

Yeah its pretty simple to do.

But you just havd the cambelt replaced and now they all needs to come off again.Pretty much a total strip down of the engine.
8v engine is plug and play back to basic.

Replacing the shells is easy but chances are the crank has been damaged as well, which means its an engine out job and a full strip down. Would probably be cheaper to put in a new engine

Don't do that, surely not worth it.

Take it for a conversion somewhere for about the same money

i did my XE conversion cheaper then that and i needed everything...

8v engine, stright swap should cost no less then £300 if you do it yourself... just need an engine crane, Few tools and some masking tape (to label your pipes if your not 100% sure what they will be when you come to plug it all back)
