Last week my Dad sold a car on Ebay, the reserve was set at £1850. With 15 seconds to go, the bidding had got to £1420, then with 4 seconds left someone else bid and it reached the reserve of £1850. Happy days we thought.
But now the guys saying that he didn't bid £1850, he only bid £1500 and cant understand why it went to the reserve. I thought that he must have put his highest bid more than the reserve, say £2000 and Ebay just bid it up enough to meet reserve?  But i dont know. Coz he's saying he doesn't want to pay £1850 for it, but this is a week on. Why not say something at the time?
Does anyone know what could have happened?

more than likly changed his mind/found sumthing else ebay dosnt over bid wat u put so he must of put more than wat the reserve was to meet it sounds like his a time waster to me theres alot of thm on there

Thats what i thought mate, why would Ebay make you bid £350 more than what you actually bid?

yea u no n plus im sure that would be against the law if ebay did that you should say to him ok them if you didnt bid that much ill contact ebay and ask if they want to pay the extra £350 that u say u didnt bit as they must of done it

send him a narky email - an ebay bid is legally binding and he has a contractural agreement to buy.
i have had this before - but the winning bidder agreed into paying me £50 for my time and to re-list the item because he decided he didn't want it. (was on a £300 car )

 Doesn't matter now anyway, he came to look at the car and decided he didn't want it coz it wasn't any good for what he needed it for. Could have at least paid for the ebay fee's though!

he is still legally binded to pay for the car though even if he has now decided its no good for what he needed.
have sold cars on ebay before and the hassle you get when people come to look at the car trying to knock you down more on price and tyre kick.

Yeah thats what i told my Dad, i said he's bid on it and is legally binding to buy it. He only wanted the car for the engine and front end to put in his MK2 Escort, but when he had a look reckoned none of it would fit so didn't want it. I said least he could have done was pay the fee's but dad just  him off without thinking.
Dont know what to do now though, i've done the second chance offer thing so hopefully they'll still want it. But do i leave negative feedback to this guy or just leave it as is?

if u select the option that you and the seller agreed not to complete the transaction, the relisting should be free

What a load of bullshit he's throwing you. "Ebay bid up the reserve I only bid £1500".
Report him. He owes you £1850.

put in the dispute as payment not recieved you will get the fees back then if you want to leave neg feedback leave it until the 90th day 10 mins before the time he won it and then leave the negative feedback he wont be able to return the negative because it stops on the 90th day right down to the lastminute i do it all the time to twats that wont pay

Well i did the second chance offer and the guy came and looked at it just now and has bought it! So thats all good.
I reported an unpaid item for the time waster and just put it down as a mutual agreement, cant be arsed with hassle off people. Hopefully we'll still get the fees back.
