Im only talking to get it up to GTI standard. Standard suspension its fine, brakes are big enough. Depends how far you want to go with it. You dont even need 16v power to be honest, being a good driver can make all the difference. So many times you see underated cars passing the more powerful and more hyped up cars like 182s etc. Its not all about the car. An 8v 106 engine is more than up to the job of making a fun track car to start out with.

probably true although i don't really think you can accuse a 182 of being hyped when we're talking about 106 gti's here, currently the most over-hyped car known to man

you probably don't need 16v power to start with, but I think its a given that sooner or later, you'll want it. So common sense say that, for an extra £500 you might as well just find a gti and save yourself money and the hassle of an engine conversion in the long run.

182's = the new saxo imo

Barely known imports are the way forward
