right folks can some one tell me whats the story or send me a link or some thing as am a bit confused by it all.
like 195/45/15 for instance 195 is the width of the tyre right? the 15 i guess is the diameter of the alloy/wheel, so whats the et45 bit all about??

thats offset. How much the wheel the wheel will stick out. For example, vauxhall has a offset of ET49, if the offset is wrong, and the car is lowered and will rub on the arch.
195 is the width of the tyre yes.
45 is the profile of the tyre

ET49 would be 49mm out towards the road side from the wheel centre line where the wheel attaches
