While a claim is ongoing against me?

Decided im not paying £1500+ for any car, so fuck getting insured by myself anymore, going to go through my mums policy.

Ive got a small claim against me though, can I cancel the policy now, or do I have to wait months for the bastard claim to go through?

You can cancel it, but you still have to go through with the claim

I didn't have to mate. I was with CIS insurance when some nob head smashed into me and wrote my car off.

Then i went out and bought a corsa GSi with money i had saved, when the claim stil hadn't even been remotely sorted and they wouldn't insure me so i cancelled and went to Quinn Direct.

Claim still went through fine and i got my money. I would ring them and ask them just to make sure its the same though bud.

You will have to pay the rest of the policy up.

They will take it off whatever money you owe you or charge you if more, wouldn't be very good for the companies if you could just cancel after crashing would it.

You'll have to pay what the policy would have cost for the duration, ie 10 or 12 months.

Also wouldn't be fair to the people who pay it all upfront, if they crash on day 1 they don't get a refund for the rest of the policy.

Your policy is most likely void anyway, you can still go elsewhere and get a new one but they'll still take their money before giving you any for the car.

I have one claim against me when I clipped a hire car, thats ongoing, there was pretty much no damage to my car.

Mine got written off recently by a friend, thats been settled out of insurance.

I do want to stay with quinn, just not paying £1585, even for a 1.0 12v corsa.

Hopefully I can change the policy so my mum is the main driver, bring it down to £800.

Ring them up and say you want to cancel. When i canceled insurance on the corsa with The AA they only charged me a cancellation fee of £80 when i think i still had 6 months left with them. I was paying in installments aswell

But i don't know whether it would of been different if i had a claim going against me

They aren't daft, if you say your mum is now going to be the main driver and you want to now be a named driver they may well say you are lying. Some insurance companies are really clamping down on it.

normally if theres been no claims you can just end it, but if there has been any sort of claim you must pay off the policy in full. cost me about 500quid to cancel policy on my blue astra when i sold it
