How would they know? I've often thought, hmm if I died I bet no one 'on the internet' would know.

Like my parents wouldn't log in and post a post saying 'Paul has died' or message someone on msn They'd maybe tell my close friends, but further than that probably no further.

My mate died in a car crash while I was at uni. I used to see him a lot at work / go to car meets (as we both used to have corsa's) - we both stopped working at the place and both went off to uni's... while at uni i only talked to him on msn messenger. Last time I spoke to him he had a golf gti, i had the 106 gti and we were gonna meet up at some point to race.

I had thought 'hmm, not seen my mate on msn for a while' - but hadn't really thought much about it. Then about 6 months later, when i was back home i happened to mention not seeing him about for a while to someone i knew and they were like 'that's not funny'. I said what? They said 'you're not funny mate'. I said 'seriously what?'. They said 'You don't know? he died in a car crash about 4 months ago?' - I couldn't believe it... infact I didn't as the person telling me winds me up a lot (and it could've just been a sick joke) - so i said 'nah, I'm sure i've spoken to him on msn more recent than that'. They said 'no seriously, look it up it was on the local news, he was a passenger in his mates car, travelling on the motorway at night, he was asleep in passenger seat, the driver fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into the back of a lorry. The driver survived but he didn't and couldn't be freed from the burning car.'

I was shocked by this? the last time i spoke to him I was gonna meet him next time we were back from uni. Still didn't believe that guy.

Then got home and google'd his name and found this

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/beds/bucks/herts/4357946.stm

Was shocked at the time, devastated as we used to be good mates like a year before and regularly drove out corsa's (both silver, both 1.2 16v) around the area / to ace cafe / cruises etc. He always backed me up too, he was a big guy and I remember when i got my nose broken in a fight, said 'I'll come with you to high wycombe to help you get this guy back' - tho i didn't.

He DID actually have an account on here, although only briefly... using the username V-Man or Vman. The scary thing is, recently I've seen V man online on Corsasport and posting - but sadly / thankfully I think Ian has just re issued the name

I was gutted I missed his funeral, although there wasn't much to bury by the sounds of it. Just goes to show though how important it is for people to spread the message when they know about someone passing away.

I think I'll put the instructions up somewhere for my parents to find to post on here / facebook etc ...

yeh so far only mate i've lost, but still at the time was hard to believe I wasn't gonna see him again. Plus i have to drive past his house everytime i go to the m4 (so to or from uni) and I'd been driving past that house for months clueless (although he was at uni too, so wouldn't of been at his home necisarily).

To be honest, I always thought he'd die in a car crash, but with him at the wheel. It's naughty i know, but we used to race back from work daily in our corsas, i was fairly sensible and my car was slightly quicker (exhaust + I wasn't as heavy as him hah), but if i got ahead, he'd do mental shit to get past. One day we're going down dual carriageway, I slow down as we both turn left (we lived fairly near each other so same route back home) at some lights, I pull in behind this bus, left indicator on approaching junction... my mate carries on past the bus in the right lane, and turns left right infront of the bus and goes off down the left turning of the junction, i wait for bus to go across and turn left after him... but fuck me it was close

I spoke to him after it and I was like 'fucking hell mate, you're mad, you could've died there, that bus was going straight on' and he just laughed

But to be fair this was when we were about 17/18 and stupid
