Sold the coupe over the weekend so on the look out for a new motor. Quite liked the coupe so thought about one of these.
Found a couple of nice SRi's particularly a few 1.9 disesels. Either this or a MK5 Golf but for the money i'll get a bog standard 2004 Golf or an Astra same year or newer with loads of extras.
If anyones owned or driven one then let me know what you thought. Cheers

The golf might be worth a bit more in a few years, but the astra will be better vfm

ive got a 1.8 sri, they are really nice cars.
you can get a green box for the diesel to take em from 150bhp to 200bhp, which is nice
think you'd probably get a better astra for your money than a golf
have a look on astraownersnetwork.co.uk there are some nice ones on there

I had a 1.9 Diesel 5 door SRI...loved it...one of the best cars I have had...lovely to drive...
I would now only go for the 3 door 1.9 CDTI (150PS) SRI model with Exterior Pack...
Looks very well

Golfs feel better made, but you will always get more for your money with the Astra. Depends what matters to you more, i'd go take a drive in one of each see what you think.
Personally I can never get comfy in the Astra's and I don't like the interior at all.

Driven a 1.8 SRI in work and wasn't impressed! Found it slow and handling was all over the place
I drive Octavia VRS's all day and getting into a diesel one after the SRI made it more obvious..the VRS feels solid and stable at all times and quick but the SRI was just not an SRI! As said the diesel might be better with the extra weight up front in terms of handling.Got to admit the SRI is a very nice looking car though!
Also the sport button is a riot Couldn't tell what it did at first then realised it raises the revs by 500 Wierd.

Yeah i found that too forgot to say! Same as the new Corsa i never felt right in that.We have a MK5 1.6 Golf in at the moment and it feels just as nice as the MK4 in terms of nice driving position..quality cabin etc.

Sport button is barely noticeable imo, you feel it a bit on the throttle response but thats it.

Yeah that's what we thought..it was meant to sharpen up the throttle.
We drove at 40 and keeping the throttle in the same position pressed it and the revs climb up by 500 by itself.

the best use for the sport button is to switch between standard and uprated maps - other than that its a bit poo

Sport button was very noticable on the 150bhp diesel sri my dad had for the weekend
very punchy engine and the car went, turned and stopped better than i thought it would and found it to be a very good car overall though me personally would only consider the 200bhp petrol or 150bhp diesel
