Because the magnet helps you pick up dodgy filler work, where it's been piled into a dent.
Decent filler work isn't really something worth worrying about IMO.

Either way, I'd offer 3/4 of what has has asked.
my corsa is a cat c repaired deano and it was only bodywork damage (win, door and rear 1/4 dent and needed the steering rack changed.
no damage on the chassis or anything so can be things like that which just add a lot of cost for the insurer as they would need to replace with OEM parts + paint.

Look at it from all different angles for paint differences. Mine has had a new boot lid at some point - the colours are completely different.
So yeah, look right down the side of the car etc. Will spot filler this way too.

And, to a certain extent. It's good it came up with Cat C repaired. It means it has been repaired to a standard to get it back on the road.
Imagine if the same damage was done but fixed privately with no insurance companies involved?! Could be even more of a death trap.

Im going to see it tomorrow at 6pm so im going to have a damn good inspection of it. He hasnt mentioned any service history either which could be another point to knock him down on. Ive driven it before in work and it drove fine, but im going to go with a very precatious attitude

well ive just got back from seeing it, the lad was genuinely shocked it was a cat c when i showed him the HPI report, i felt bad after tellin him The only evidence i could find of previous repair was the NSF wing looked different from a genuine vaxuhall item. the lad said lowest he would accept is £1500 knowing about the newly discovered accident...I'm going to try and knock him down a bit too

Maybe why the other person did not buy it due to doing a HPI check and finding out it was a CAT C
I hate buying cars, can never ever trust the seller

It was a bummer about finding that out, but i work with cars every day, i know when its a dog and this was far from it. the only thing that gave the repair a way was a non genuine ns wing

I'm with Ian, although i'd not even offer the grand, I wouldn't be negotiating.
