I was just thinking. A while back, my brothers car got pulled over for having no tax (cant remember why it was, but there was some confusion regarding it) and at teh time he had a 3/4 front plate on.
My point is, obviously the car that recognised it as having no tax had the ANPR device on it.
Does that therefore make the 3/4 legal as they could be read by the ANPR?

A 3/4 plate is theoretically no different to a standard plate further away. In practice, however, it would be harder to read by a speed camera or something that's a set distance from the vehicle it's looking at.

But surely if all forces are starting to use ANPR there shouldnt be a problem if its able to recognise it IMO

When my brothers car got stopped though, they did the normal check, but didnt mention anything about the plate.

They don't recognise it though Cars still have to get close enough to the cameras so they can read it!!
I've never had a mention with it. Police have walked round the car a few times when I've been pulled and haven't even mentioned it then.
