Grr!!

Well I’m selling my car soon and although unsure of what I want to replace it with my mind in a bored moment ran to head units knowing my current would stay with the car.

Found one I liked and did some reading on it online. Wanting to see it “in my hand” as it were I popped to Halfords at lunch after seeing it on their webpage. Finding it on display I saw it came with free fitting. Great, saves me doing at least and saves a Tenner…looking closely I then saw it read “free fitting normally £39.99” – now £10 I can understand for 30mins work and having someone taken off the shop floor. Confused at the higher price I wanted to question this. After a 10minute wait for a sales assistant to become free and answer my question the answer I got back was “I don’t know mate – no clue why its that high” he then went on to explain it would be either him or his “mate” (rather than colleague) who would do it and couldn’t explain why this head unit was any more difficult and thus expensive to fit……and I thought it was just Saturday lads who were hopeless!!

The reason they charge stupid prices is because people come in who have no idea how easy it is and pay it.

hell i'll do it, i fiitted my current one to three cars and fitted three others for mates i can do it. just wondered why this model justified a £40 fitting charge, i only want to know what was so much more complex about this model (to which i cant see any reason from what i have read and seen) for a 400% mark up on fitting price

Rob, i can well believe it i done all my mates for free easy work. but why offer £40 fitting for free? and what makes it worthy of £40 fitting price over all the others which were £10

When I did some "time" there part-time they figure £39.99 is one hours labour

As said - people do pay it, but majority of the units they sell come with 'free fitting'

Only ideal thing about buying from halfords is the 12 month warranty where you can literally go in with a broken unit and leave with a brand new one

Think of the amount of people out there who dont know about fitting stereos, people who only wash their car and thats it - if it needs anything else done they put it to a garage

Its cause they are losing money on some of the stereos when they are cheap, so head office put up the fitting on that unit to level it out.

They never sell and the better ones are usually the same price wit £20 or £10 fitting.

Even so, i still think £20 is expensive for some of the fits we do and take 5 mins!

Well, im not...lol. But i wont let someone get ripped off. I know its difficult at halfords coz most things are overpriced.

But the £40 fit price just makes me feel bad, and like i say...unless its a tough car, even £20 seems bad!

Insurance will be a killer on a member of staff going into a member of the public's vehicle as well.
